The everything people

Jack Sirianni | Monday, March 6, 2023

With the ending of my Tuesday class at 10:45 in DeBart and the rumblings of my stomach, I leave the classroom into the swarm of students in the hallway that make me feel like I am a freshman in high school again. Escaping the stampede with most of my limbs intact, I rush outside to

Dining hall despair

Jonah Tran | Monday, February 27, 2023

The dining hall food is terrible. There, I had to rip the Band-Aid off. I will not sugarcoat the quality of the dining hall food. On the whole, it is simply bad. Before I begin listing off my grievances, I need to establish a few things. My opinions are based off my experience predominately at

In memoriam: Dining hall soup

Letter to the Editor | Monday, November 1, 2021

“Some soup! Some soup! My kingdom for some soup!” Now, Richard III almost certainly never uttered these words, yet he also never said the same thing about a horse. Thanks, Shakespeare. Nevertheless, of late I find my own mind crying out this refrain. No matter how desperately I may yearn, I know each time I

An open letter to Campus Dining

Maggie Eastland | Wednesday, September 22, 2021

Dear Campus Dining, I just have one question — what’s stopping you from serving Heinz ketchup? I know this might seem like a trivial request, but just imagine the utopia we could create by replacing the ugly, inferior Red Gold dispensers with the gold standard of tomato-based dipping sauces. Rest assured, I’m not the only

Rating late-night snacks

Mannion McGinley | Wednesday, March 31, 2021

On the regular, I — like most students here at Notre Dame — find myself heading to bed between 12:30 and 3:00 a.m. on any given day. That’s a good six-plus hours after dinner, and after having been in class all day, a late-night snack is the only option left. But what to have? And

Don’t spoil my meal

Kelly McGarry | Monday, February 8, 2016

It’s a strange feeling when you’re having a meal and realize that the entire conversation is based on the food you’re eating. When the dining hall conversation is good, the food itself doesn’t really come into play. You’re talking about class, work, friends, movies, making plans, basically anything but the same food that we’ve grown

This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bou This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bouts will begin its preliminary rounds. A men’s boxing tournament that benefits the Holy Cross Mission in Bangladesh, Bengal Bouts seems to perfectly combine two integral aspects of Notre Dame’s identity: a passion for sports and a commitment to social impact.

This week, From the Archives takes a long overdue look at the history of Bengal Bouts. While this tournament predates the Observer by nearly four decades, we uncovered a selection of stories that capture at least a part of the rich history of this Notre Dame tradition.

We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department and you responded with the request: “Northwestern @ Notre Dame 2014 Football Breakdown”. That game was a heartbreaking loss for a Notre Dame team that had started 6-0 before stumbling down the stretch to a 7-5 record. A bowl game win over LSU salvaged some optimism for the program’s future, but that loss to Northwestern was a shocking result that contributed to one of the more appalling stretches of Irish football in the Brian Kelly era.
