Saints win first ever CCAC title, qualify for national tournament

Ryan Murphy | Friday, May 19, 2023

Spring 2023 has been the best season to date for Holy Cross men’s tennis, a relatively young program. This season, the team won its first-ever Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) tournament title. In doing so, they also earned their first bid to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) tournament. The Saints finished regular season

This year has been exceptional for Holy Cross Women’s Tennis. In the fifth year of the program (not counting a two-game 2020 season that was shortened due to COVID), the team went 12-8, ranked in the top 20 and won the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament on April 28th.  “The last few years have been

Gehrig Smalstig | Friday, May 21, 2021

“If I would have told you ‘Yea, we’re gonna finish second place,’ I would’ve been a liar.” Head coach Eric Mahone seemed to be in shock just looking back at how far the Holy Cross Saints women’s tennis team had come. “We didn’t win a match our first two years,” he said. “Every match we

Holy Cross men’s tennis season comes to an abrupt halt

Nate Moller | Friday, May 15, 2020

The 2020 Holy Cross men’s tennis season ended almost as soon as it started due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so there is not too much to recap. In fact, the team only had a chance to compete in two matches. When asked about a season highlight, even head coach Eric Mahone admitted that the season

Patrick Gallagher | Friday, May 15, 2020

Due to COVID-19, almost the entire Holy Cross Saints women’s tennis season was cancelled; however, Holy Cross (0-2 CCAC) was able to play two team matches before the pandemic escalated. These results continued their 15-game losing streak dating back to 2018. Unfortunately, the team was also not able to win any individual matches as they

Saints hope to build continuity after program’s second year

Hayden Adams | Friday, May 17, 2019

In the second season of the Holy Cross programs, both the men’s and women’s teams missed out on their respective CCAC conference tournaments. The men  (5-10, 2-6) finished sixth, while the women (0-10, 0-7) finished eighth. Neither team was aided by the addition of a new head coach and the level of inexperience each possessed. Though

This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bou This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bouts will begin its preliminary rounds. A men’s boxing tournament that benefits the Holy Cross Mission in Bangladesh, Bengal Bouts seems to perfectly combine two integral aspects of Notre Dame’s identity: a passion for sports and a commitment to social impact.

This week, From the Archives takes a long overdue look at the history of Bengal Bouts. While this tournament predates the Observer by nearly four decades, we uncovered a selection of stories that capture at least a part of the rich history of this Notre Dame tradition.

We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department and you responded with the request: “Northwestern @ Notre Dame 2014 Football Breakdown”. That game was a heartbreaking loss for a Notre Dame team that had started 6-0 before stumbling down the stretch to a 7-5 record. A bowl game win over LSU salvaged some optimism for the program’s future, but that loss to Northwestern was a shocking result that contributed to one of the more appalling stretches of Irish football in the Brian Kelly era.
