‘Euphoria’ season 2: ‘Trashy’ in the most beautiful way

JP Spoonmore | Wednesday, March 16, 2022

Now that the smoke from its season finale has finally cleared, it is time to search the rubble for why “Euphoria” has turned so suddenly into its original season’s antithesis. Once a serious look at youth and love to an absolute joke, the show doesn’t seem to realize that its second season has audiences laughing

Adolescence on-screen

Nick Brigati | Tuesday, March 23, 2021

Whenever I watched a young adult TV show or movie in high school, I always found it hard to connect to the characters. This wasn’t just because of the poor acting and impractical nature of their plots (although that certainly didn’t help), but because the adolescents I saw on-screen looked anything but — they didn’t

Screaming and shouting at ‘Malcolm & Marie’

Aidan O'Malley | Wednesday, February 10, 2021

I’m going to start this review by talking about film critics, not so much because I’d like to but because writer/director Sam Levinson, with “Malcolm & Marie,” has created a situation in which I must. In the new Netflix film, John David Washington (“BlacKkKlansman,” “Tenet”) portrays a director, and today was the premiere of his

‘Baby:’ a story of love, not prostitution

Dasha Kudriavtseva | Monday, November 2, 2020

When you see the pink-colored poster for the Italian series “Baby,” the last thing you’d imagine is a story of underage prostitution inspired by real events, but the third season of the Netflix show continues to unravel the dark, hidden lives of a pair teenagers. The main character ‘baby,’ Chiara (Benedetta Porcaroli), is dissatisfied with

Commencement 2020: Four years in review

Ryan Israel and Mike Donovan | Friday, May 15, 2020

It’s time to turn the clock back to what, in retrospect, seems like a simpler time: late summer 2016. The class of 2020 first arrived on campus via an “Ultralight Beam,” looking forward to four years of academic and faith “Formation” and dreaming of staying up “All Night” with friends. Not yet “Destroyed by Hippie Powers,”

Disco music is quarantine comfort

Gina Twardosz | Monday, April 27, 2020

In what would have been the sequel of “hot girl summer” if not for a global pandemic, Doja Cat’s “Say So” would have definitely reigned supreme. The music video for “Say So” is a hyper stylized ’70s wonderland of glitter, nostalgia and disco — cue the iconic jumpsuits and dancing. Amidst the ’70s grooving, Doja

HBO’s dark teen drama: ‘Euphoria’

Ryan Israel | Wednesday, August 28, 2019

Most teen dramas follow a fairly similar and predictable pattern. A group of teenagers, almost always in high school — some of them friends, some of them enemies — go through a series of twists and turns, ups and downs, relationships and break-ups, lies and deceit. At the end of the season, there’s a homecoming

This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bou This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bouts will begin its preliminary rounds. A men’s boxing tournament that benefits the Holy Cross Mission in Bangladesh, Bengal Bouts seems to perfectly combine two integral aspects of Notre Dame’s identity: a passion for sports and a commitment to social impact.

This week, From the Archives takes a long overdue look at the history of Bengal Bouts. While this tournament predates the Observer by nearly four decades, we uncovered a selection of stories that capture at least a part of the rich history of this Notre Dame tradition.

We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department and you responded with the request: “Northwestern @ Notre Dame 2014 Football Breakdown”. That game was a heartbreaking loss for a Notre Dame team that had started 6-0 before stumbling down the stretch to a 7-5 record. A bowl game win over LSU salvaged some optimism for the program’s future, but that loss to Northwestern was a shocking result that contributed to one of the more appalling stretches of Irish football in the Brian Kelly era.
