Community comes together to remember 9/11 attacks

Ciara Hopkinson | Thursday, September 12, 2019

Though most Notre Dame students are too young to have concrete memories of Sept. 11, 2001, that day remains etched in America’s collective memory as the day that tested and changed, but did not break, the country. On Wednesday evening, the Notre Dame community gathered at the Grotto at 8:46 p.m. — the time marking

Malloy, Sorin College residents explore dorm’s history

Andrew Cameron | Tuesday, March 27, 2018

For well over a century, Notre Dame’s first residence hall, Sorin College, has stood on God Quad beside the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. Much has changed since its construction in 1888. For instance, the dorm’s front porch has not always been a part of the building, and Sorin has not always been known as

Emily McConville | Monday, September 12, 2016

Notre Dame’s Young Americans for Freedom chapter started early Sunday morning, planting 2,977 American flags on South Quad in memory of the 2,977 people who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. As they worked, the bell of the Basilica tolled, ending at the moment a hijacked plane struck the South Tower of the World

‘A great and holy priest’

Lesley Stevenson | Wednesday, March 4, 2015

“Come, Holy Spirit.” When University President Emeritus Fr. Edward “Monk” Malloy stood before a capacity crowd at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on Tuesday night, he invoked God’s guidance in illuminating the complex, dynamic life of University President Emeritus Fr. Theodore Hesburgh. Facing a congregation of Hesburgh’s family and friends and flanked by dorm

Monk Malloy reflects on Fr. Ted

Letter to the Editor | Saturday, February 28, 2015

Fr. Ted Hesburgh was my immediate predecessor as President of Notre Dame, my fellow Holy Cross priest and my close personal friend. In recent years, I had some of my undergraduate students read his wonderful memoir “God, Country and Notre Dame.” We then went together to his office atop the Library and he warmly welcomed

Instagram post 2195908705778065699_1726022560 “As you may know, I received 5,000 signatures and a protest on God Quad last spring, which — while compelling and interesting — was a bit of curiosity to me, because people were protesting against something that hadn’t been established yet,” said associate vice president of Residential Life Heather Rakoczy Russel in the Dahnke Ballroom last night. ..
Rakoczy Russel was looking to garner student feedback in crafting the off campus differentiation policies. Surveys will be sent out to the class of 2022, the first class impacted by the off campus differentiation, but ultimately the policy will reflect Notre Dame's attitudes about community and identity.

"After making my heart suffer such a toll, I decided to redeem myself — and my stomach — by delighting in some real — I cannot emphasize that word enough — Mexican food. I searched the Internet for the best places in South Bend, heavily rolling my eyes at the lists featuring Chipotle and, yes, Taco Bell. Thankfully, I found several options that promised authentic food, and most of them were located on South Bend’s west side."

Instagram post 2192330035142907936_1726022560 Members of the community gathered at Duncan Hall on Wednesday for the second night of Las Posadas celebrations. Senior Carolina Robledo explains Las Posadas as "a commemoration of the walk of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem to find a place for Jesus to stay." The participants sang back and forth hymns with members of Duncan, Keough and O'Neill Halls as they travelled from dorm to dorm, commemorating Joseph and Mary's search for shelter.
