Charlie Kenney | Wednesday, September 11, 2019

As HBO’s record and heart-breaking series “Game of Thrones” came to its regrettable conclusion this past May, I found myself looking for a show both to fill the hole its finale left in my heart and to make my HBO subscription worth it. So, as any good capitalist would, I decided to jump on the

Devon Chenelle | Monday, September 4, 2017

During the most recent season of Game of Thrones, HBO’s wildly popular fantasy series, perhaps no theme was more vital — nor was any phrase more often repeated — than the question of allegiance invited by characters’ incessant exhortations to “bend the knee” and affirm the political submission symbolized therein. Viewers await each Sunday to find

Jimmy Kemper | Tuesday, October 4, 2016

In the wake of the announcement about the inevitable completion of “Game of Thrones,” HBO has been desperate to find a new prestige adventure show for its lineup. So here we are once again: finals week. The time where you buckle down, become super efficient, freshen up on a semester’s worth of material, constantly pour over old exams and quizzes and lectures and … well, if you’re anything like me the thought of it all is truly daunting. So, if you’re anything like

A men’s boxing tournament that benefits the Holy Cross Mission in Bangladesh, Bengal Bouts seems to perfectly combine two integral aspects of Notre Dame’s identity: a passion for sports and a commitment to social impact.

This week, From the Archives takes a long overdue look at the history of Bengal Bouts. While this tournament predates the Observer by nearly four decades, we uncovered a selection of stories that capture at least a part of the rich history of this Notre Dame tradition.
