Zwiller: What to watch for in NFL Week 2

Thomas Zwiller | Friday, September 16, 2022

With the conclusion of a crazy Broncos vs. Seahawks game on Monday Night, a wild Week 1 has concluded. As we head into Week 2, I wanted to take a moment to look back on Week 1 and talk about some of the oddities. Wide Receiving Struggles: New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, Green Bay Packers

Kalemkerian: NFL divisional round predictions

John Kalemkerian | Tuesday, January 18, 2022

Continuing the trend of a great NFL season, Super Wild Card weekend gave us some great results and matchups to look forward to, although three blowouts marginally dulled the hype. From many fans’ perspectives (including this Giants fan), the Saturday and Sunday outcomes were about as good as could be hoped for, with the hated

Zwiller: Week 10 Reactions

Thomas Zwiller | Wednesday, November 17, 2021

As I always like to do, I want to go over a few storylines coming out of Week 10. We have lots to talk about, so let’s get to it! Kansas City Chiefs 41 Las Vegas Raiders 14   The Kansas City Chiefs are back. The Raiders, who had come into the game with control of

Kalemkerian: Midseason NFL Power Rankings

John Kalemkerian | Friday, November 12, 2021

Though the NFL’s decision to expand the regular season to 17 games was met with equal parts praise and criticism, there is one benefit that few realized at the time the decision was announced: The new schedule gives us an exact halfway point in the season. Although it seems like the first nine weeks have

Zwiller: NFL Week Nine Reactions

Thomas Zwiller | Tuesday, November 9, 2021

I pride myself on having a relatively good understanding of the NFL. I document weekly picks on my live stream NFL Kickoff.  If I were to begin gambling I would not make a whole lot of money, but my record of 76-46 would be at home on ESPN’s Expert Picks page. But this last weekend? Well, I went

Zwiller: Let’s overreact 2.0

Thomas Zwiller | Monday, September 20, 2021

Last week I wrote about the crazy opening weekend: The Titans’ crazy game against the Cardinals, the Browns’ great showing against the Chiefs, the Saints rolling the Packers and the Steelers locking down the Bills.  I think I did pretty well. The Titans’ offense bounced back against the Seattle Seahawks, and the Browns seem to

Zwiller: The (no longer) jolly Rodgers

Thomas Zwiller | Monday, May 10, 2021

There are not a whole lot of things that can overshadow the NFL draft. However, Aaron Rodgers sure did get close to doing just that. ESPN’s Adam Schefter recently reported that Rodgers is “so disgruntled with the Green Bay Packers that he has told some within the organization that he does not want to return

Smith: Go Pack go

Matt Smith | Tuesday, September 15, 2020

So much for turmoil within the Green Bay Packers’ organization. After an offseason filled with questions surrounding the front office’s decision-making and the chemistry between star quarterback Aaron Rodgers and head coach Matt LaFleur, the team came flying out of the gates with a blistering 43-34 victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. The Packers

Adams: My dumbest pro sports mascots

Hayden Adams | Monday, March 2, 2020

I haven’t yet taken over as Sports Editor, but as the time approaches for me to do so, I feel compelled to send off my predecessor, Connor Mulvena, by writing a tribute sports authority to his old piece on the dumbest pro sports mascots. So without further ado, in no particular order, here are mine.

This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bou This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bouts will begin its preliminary rounds. A men’s boxing tournament that benefits the Holy Cross Mission in Bangladesh, Bengal Bouts seems to perfectly combine two integral aspects of Notre Dame’s identity: a passion for sports and a commitment to social impact.

This week, From the Archives takes a long overdue look at the history of Bengal Bouts. While this tournament predates the Observer by nearly four decades, we uncovered a selection of stories that capture at least a part of the rich history of this Notre Dame tradition.

We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department and you responded with the request: “Northwestern @ Notre Dame 2014 Football Breakdown”. That game was a heartbreaking loss for a Notre Dame team that had started 6-0 before stumbling down the stretch to a 7-5 record. A bowl game win over LSU salvaged some optimism for the program’s future, but that loss to Northwestern was a shocking result that contributed to one of the more appalling stretches of Irish football in the Brian Kelly era.
