Letter to the Editor | Friday, April 24, 2020

Notre Dame is blessed with a wide variety of humorous social media pages offering commentary on the ND experience. With so much choice, students may wonder where they ought to invest their time and valuable follows (as it is important to keep a good follow-to-follower ratio). Well, look no further! I took it upon myself

‘Fleabag’ scratches an itch for comedy-seeking audiences

Caroline Lezny | Wednesday, September 18, 2019

“I sometimes worry I’d be less of a feminist if I had bigger tits,” Fleabag says in the midst of a silent Quaker meeting. This scene provides the opening of the fourth episode of the show’s most recent season. As shocking as her comment is, Fleabag’s inappropriate outburst is perfectly characteristic of the lascivious humor

‘Barry’ is not what you think

Carlos De Loera | Monday, April 8, 2019

“Saturday Night Live” alum Bill Hader is hilarious and one of the best cast members in the famed NBC show’s recent history. His timing, ability to doing stellar impressions and inability to keep it together during sketches made him a favorite on the show. After leaving “SNL” in 2013, Hader continued to act in movies

Zahm in outrage when hot girl becomes nun

Andrew Rebholz | Wednesday, September 12, 2018

Last week, Katie Doe, recent ND grad, took her vows and officially joined the Little Sisters of the Poor. Dedicating her life to the Church and putting her love and labors into the hands of God, Ms. Doe was almost immediately caught up in a growing outrage with certain women who choose religious life. “It’s

Ottessa Moshfegh presents: ‘My Year of Rest and Relaxation,’ a clinically proven cure to ennui

Mike Donovan | Wednesday, August 29, 2018

Death, life’s only fixity, is also its only natural sweetener (certified 100 percent organic), and as such, its stoic presence illuminates all the feeble estuaries — love, fear or, as Roland Barthes writes, “events, setbacks, annoyances” — flowing around its immovable presence. Death turns these meager rivers into juice and soda, flavored with granules of

A reflection on procrastination

Sara Schlecht | Tuesday, April 24, 2018

In trying to come up with ideas for this Inside Column, I drew a blank. Repeatedly. So in order to have something to fill this space, I asked several friends what I should write. The answers were varied, some realistic, others ridiculous or reflective. So in lieu of coming up with my own idea (cut

Laughs between tears

Colleen Fischer | Wednesday, April 4, 2018

Most generations have a defining comedy, and none is more notorious than “M*A*S*H.” As legend has said, the sewer system in New York failed because so many people went to flush their toilets during the commercial break of the show’s finale. During this weekend, I watched a couple of episodes and I was taken aback

Jimmy Kemper | Monday, February 20, 2017

From the moment it took the stage in Washington Hall on Friday night, The Second City’s BlueCo. troupe made it abundantly clear that it was going to be a great night, but also a night that would address some of the biggest controversies in our country right now. The touring group kicked off the show with a

McSweeney’s Internet Tendency: Don’t worry, it’s not a bottomless pit of procrastinatory doom.

Mike Donovan | Tuesday, November 1, 2016

It’s 1 a.m. at Club Hes. You’ve been in the intellectual trenches for several hours now, toiling away as the shadow of the coming exam looms over your stress-ridden head. You contemplate a study break — some relaxing and mindless activity to grant reprieve — but quickly turn the idea down. Netflix, YouTube and the

Joseph R. Biden has become the second Catholic President in United States history, but his position on abortion is “one that cannot be condoned” according to Rev. Robert Dowd.

“Other bishops think that, because he’s a conscientious Catholic whose faith is obviously important to him, we should strike a more positive tone, particularly at the outset of his presidency. After all, in many ways Biden’s positions are more in line with Catholic teaching than Trump’s, particularly when it comes to migrants, refugees, climate issues, poverty and inequality,” Dowd continued.
