The ridiculous joy of ‘Off Book,’ the improvised musical podcast

Matthew Munhall | Wednesday, November 1, 2017

Writing and producing a new musical can be an intensive and protracted process. Lin-Manuel Miranda spent seven years meticulously composing the music for “Hamilton.” Benj Pasek and Justin Paul first pitched “Dear Evan Hansen” four years before it debuted on Broadway. Jessica McKenna and Zach Reino do it every week. McKenna and Reino are the co-hosts

Second City show presents improv with an edge

Jimmy Kemper | Monday, February 20, 2017

From the moment it took the stage in Washington Hall on Friday night, The Second City’s BlueCo. troupe made it abundantly clear that it was going to be a great night, but also a night that would address some of the biggest controversies in our country right now. The touring group kicked off the show with a

Jennifer Vosters | Thursday, February 4, 2016

Auditioning for the Humor Artists in the fall of 2014 — as an SMC junior returning from a year abroad — was a leap for me. I’m typically one of the quieter theater types (yes, there is such a thing!), and the idea of getting up without a script in front of an audience that expected to

This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bou This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bouts will begin its preliminary rounds. A men’s boxing tournament that benefits the Holy Cross Mission in Bangladesh, Bengal Bouts seems to perfectly combine two integral aspects of Notre Dame’s identity: a passion for sports and a commitment to social impact.

We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department and you responded with the request: “Northwestern @ Notre Dame 2014 Football Breakdown”. That game was a heartbreaking loss for a Notre Dame team that had started 6-0 before stumbling down the stretch to a 7-5 record. A bowl game win over LSU salvaged some optimism for the program’s future, but that loss to Northwestern was a shocking result that contributed to one of the more appalling stretches of Irish football in the Brian Kelly era.
