Irish wear down Tar Heels behind performances of Ian Book, Deon McIntosh

Benjamin Padanilam | Monday, October 9, 2017

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — When No. 21 Notre Dame made the decision to start sophomore Ian Book at quarterback against North Carolina in place of the injured Brandon Wimbush, it knew the offense was probably going to look a little different. And in some ways it did; but in some ways, it did not. The differences were apparent:

Padanilam: Saturday’s win didn’t teach us all that much

Benjamin Padanilam | Monday, October 9, 2017

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Saturday’s game against North Carolina could’ve been billed as a chance to learn about who this Notre Dame team really is. The expectation for most of the week was that junior quarterback Brandon Wimbush wouldn’t be able to go, leaving sophomore Ian Book to start in his place. And just under 30

Sky’s the limit: As a player and leader, Nyles Morgan is making the most of his final season with the Irish

Tobias Hoonhout | Friday, October 6, 2017

Nyles Morgan has always been a guy that let his talking happen on the field. An Army All-American in high school, Morgan committed to Notre Dame over a number of schools, including SEC powerhouses Ole Miss and Florida. “I took my official at the USC game, and that was like one of the most amazing things

Despite questions at quarterback, Irish offense feels prepared

Marek Mazurek | Friday, October 6, 2017

When a starter has to sit out due to an injury, it’s almost always a bad thing. It’s basically the definition of the situation. But should starting junior quarterback Brandon Wimbush have to sit out for Saturday’s game against North Carolina, Notre Dame may not be in that bad of a position. On Tuesday, Irish

O’Boyle: Wimbush will be quarterback going forward, despite flaws

Daniel O'Boyle | Friday, October 6, 2017

Here’s something we know: If Notre Dame loses to 1-4 North Carolina, it’ll ruin its season. That goes without saying. This Tar Heels team started the year without much experience and has been ravaged by injuries. Its only victory this year was over Conference-USA opponent Old Dominion. There’s a lot to say about how a loss to

Irish set to face injury-ravaged North Carolina squad

Elizabeth Greason | Friday, October 6, 2017

This season was going to be a rebuilding one for the Tar Heels, who lost many of their top faces on offense either to the NFL or to graduation. Without starting quarterback Mitch Trubisky, who is now under center for the Chicago Bears, running backs T.J. Logan and Elijah Hood and wide receivers Ryan Switzer

Notre Dame extends two offers leading up to major recruiting weekend in USC

Benjamin Padanilam | Friday, October 6, 2017

For many people, Notre Dame’s 52-17 win over Miami (OH) on Saturday did not do much to move the needle of Notre Dame’s season. On the recruiting trail, however, the win did move the needle for several of the high school athletes the Irish (4-1) had on campus this weekend. Although Notre Dame had fewer

Head to head: Notre Dame vs. North Carolina

Observer Sports Staff | Friday, October 6, 2017

Tar Heels Passing For all the problems North Carolina faces, its passing offense isn’t a main concern. Tar Heel head coach Larry Fedora has rolled with redshirt freshman Chazz Surratt as his starting quarterback and the results have been average. Surratt has only thrown two interceptions this season, despite his inexperience, and his passing totals

Joseph R. Biden has become the second Catholic President in United States history, but his position on abortion is “one that cannot be condoned” according to Rev. Robert Dowd.

“Other bishops think that, because he’s a conscientious Catholic whose faith is obviously important to him, we should strike a more positive tone, particularly at the outset of his presidency. After all, in many ways Biden’s positions are more in line with Catholic teaching than Trump’s, particularly when it comes to migrants, refugees, climate issues, poverty and inequality,” Dowd continued.
