Andrew McGuinness | Wednesday, September 27, 2023

Let’s just say it’s a good thing we haven’t been including coaching grades in this article. If you had told Notre Dame fans the Irish would allow just 17 points to Ohio State, you probably wouldn’t have been able to finish your sentence before they started blasting the fight song. Yet three plays on the

Week 4 Notre Dame football grades: Defense has work to do up front

Andrew McGuinness | Wednesday, September 20, 2023

The first quarter of the 2023 season really couldn’t have gotten off to a better start for the Notre Dame defense. The Irish allowed a combined six points in their first two games, then picked off 2021 ACC passing leader Brennan Armstrong three times and allowed just seven second-half points to their first Power Five

Week 1 Notre Dame football grades: Defense and special teams get it done

Tyler Reidy | Wednesday, August 30, 2023

On Monday, we graded the Notre Dame offense and its 2023 debut in Dublin. The 42-point thrashing of Navy was met with high marks nearly all across the board. Aidan Thomas | Sunday, January 1, 2023

While on the offensive side of the ball, Notre Dame looked to replace All-American junior Michael Mayer at tight end, they had a couple of major holes on the defensive side as well. The Irish were missing four defensive starters during Friday’s Gator Bowl, including two on the defensive line. Senior vyper and projected first-round

Thomas: How the Irish can build for the future without sacrificing 2022

Aidan Thomas | Friday, October 28, 2022

Hopes of a national championship, a playoff berth, or even a New Year’s Six bowl game have evaporated for Notre Dame this season. The first two ended when the Irish dropped their second straight game to open the season, a stunning loss to Marshall. The latter ended upon Notre Dame’s embarrassing 16-14 defeat to the

Irish defense embraces Golden’s style of play ahead of 2022 season

Nate Moller | Friday, April 22, 2022

After an impressive season last year, there are lofty expectations for the Irish defense this season under new defensive coordinator Al Golden. With plenty of talent returning on the defensive side of the ball, the Irish have worked hard to learn Golden’s system and develop further as a unit in preparation for the 2022 season.

This week, From the Archives takes a long overdue look at the history of Bengal Bouts. While this tournament predates the Observer by nearly four decades, we uncovered a selection of stories that capture at least a part of the rich history of this Notre Dame tradition.

That game was a heartbreaking loss for a Notre Dame team that had started 6-0 before stumbling down the stretch to a 7-5 record. A bowl game win over LSU salvaged some optimism for the program’s future, but that loss to Northwestern was a shocking result that contributed to one of the more appalling stretches of Irish football in the Brian Kelly era.
