Position Group Breakdown: Offensive Line

Observer Sports Staff | Tuesday, April 7, 2020

Sports Illustrated just recently named Notre Dame the new “Offensive Line U.” The offensive line in 2020 figures to live up to this name, as there is plenty of talent and experience across the board. All of the starters from the 2019 season are returning, and if they can stay healthy, this unit could continue

Kelly discusses injuries, run game, looks ahead to regular season finale

Charlotte Edmonds | Monday, November 25, 2019

Following Notre Dame’s 40-7 win over Boston College, capping off an undefeated regular season at home, head coach Brian Kelly addressed the media in a phone conference Sunday. In addition to the win over the Eagles, Kelly discussed the state of injuries for the program, goals for the team going forward and how different players

Jafar Armstrong keeps spirits high despite missing first half of season

Jack Concannon | Friday, November 8, 2019

Jafar Armstrong has had to wait his turn. Last season, he received double-digit carries in each of the first three games, but as Dexter Williams took a firm grip on the starter role his utilization dwindled. Still, he proved a capable backup to Williams, averaging over five yards per carry in four of the team’s

Adams: Book salvaged Notre Dame’s season against Virginia Tech

Hayden Adams | Friday, November 8, 2019

Three minutes and 22 seconds. That’s how much time was left on the clock Saturday evening when No. 15 Notre Dame trailed Virginia Tech 20-14 at home. That’s how much time Notre Dame’s offense had to put together a go-ahead and possibly game-winning 87-yard touchdown drive. That’s how much time senior quarterback Ian Book had

Kelly addressed the injury sustained by junior right tackle Robert Hainsey during the victory, saying that Hainsey will have surgery Thursday. He also

‘I couldn’t give up:’ Offensive line embodies next-man-up mentality as injuries plague Irish

Grant DelVecchio | Sunday, November 3, 2019

Last week against Michigan, the Notre Dame offensive line was, to put it bluntly, horrible. The unit lost senior offensive lineman Tommy Kraemer early in the first quarter to a season-ending injury, and they didn’t look the same afterwards. All in all, a poorly played contest for the Irish. Heading into this week, Kraemer was

Kelly discusses start of spring season

Benjamin Padanilam | Tuesday, March 6, 2018

As Notre Dame prepares for the beginning of its spring season, it does not face nearly the level of uncertainty it did going into the spring last year — the team is coming off a 10-win season and returns 10 of its starters on last season’s defense and the systems on both sides of the ball.

Kelly discusses Navy preparations, next season

Benjamin Padanilam | Friday, November 17, 2017

When No. 8 Notre Dame takes the field Saturday against Navy, it will be looking to put last week’s 41-8 loss to No. 3 Miami (FL) behind it. And so far this week in practice, Irish head coach Brian Kelly believes his team has successfully done that. “Our preparation has been really good,” Kelly said.

This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bou This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bouts will begin its preliminary rounds. A men’s boxing tournament that benefits the Holy Cross Mission in Bangladesh, Bengal Bouts seems to perfectly combine two integral aspects of Notre Dame’s identity: a passion for sports and a commitment to social impact.

This week, From the Archives takes a long overdue look at the history of Bengal Bouts. While this tournament predates the Observer by nearly four decades, we uncovered a selection of stories that capture at least a part of the rich history of this Notre Dame tradition.

We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department and you responded with the request: “Northwestern @ Notre Dame 2014 Football Breakdown”. That game was a heartbreaking loss for a Notre Dame team that had started 6-0 before stumbling down the stretch to a 7-5 record. A bowl game win over LSU salvaged some optimism for the program’s future, but that loss to Northwestern was a shocking result that contributed to one of the more appalling stretches of Irish football in the Brian Kelly era.
