Hayden Adams | Friday, March 12, 2021

If you’ve been following my work with The Observer for a while, first of all, thank you. Second, you may have seen various pieces I’ve done related to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In a similar spirit, inspired in part by the Disney+ series “What If…” set to be released this year, here’s some fun hypothetical

Irish unravel in final quarter against Cardinal in double-digit loss

Elizabeth Greason | Sunday, November 26, 2017

STANFORD, Calif. — Things were looking good for the Irish there for a minute. And then everything fell apart. Take your pick of the plays that actually marked the end for Notre Dame (9-3) in its 38-20 loss to Stanford. There was the first of junior quarterback Brandon Wimbush’s two interceptions. There was the fumble on

Irish defense holds Navy for win on Senior Day

Connor Mulvena | Saturday, November 18, 2017

The Irish faced a unique opponent in the Midshipmen on Saturday. On top of that, the weather was less than ideal, with steady rain and cold winds prevailing throughout the game. After both teams failed to score on their opening drives, the Irish (9-2) would pick things up at their own 32-yard line, where junior running

Greason: Irish win leaves room for improvement

Elizabeth Greason | Saturday, November 18, 2017

There were a lot of questions surrounding how No. 8 Notre Dame would bounce back from last week’s crushing defeat at the hands of now-No. 3 Miami (FL). Some believed the Irish (9-2) wouldn’t be able to rebound at all against Navy, who has managed to be a thorn in Notre Dame’s side over the

Irish ride Adams, defense to top-15 victory

Jack Concannon | Monday, October 30, 2017

The play looked all too familiar to anyone who has followed the Irish this season. Junior quarterback Brandon Wimbush took the snap out of the shotgun and turned to his left, handing the ball to junior running back Josh Adams up the middle. Most teams might be happy to get four yards on a run

Irish dominate Trojans in complete team performance

Daniel O'Boyle | Sunday, October 22, 2017

Forty years ago, Notre Dame defeated a ranked USC team by 30 points. Before and during Saturday’s game, Notre Dame Stadium showed clips of the 1977 blowout. It was a win iconic enough to earn a name: “The Green Jersey Game.” In 2017, the Irish (6-1) went five points better. It may not get a name.

This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bou This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bouts will begin its preliminary rounds. A men’s boxing tournament that benefits the Holy Cross Mission in Bangladesh, Bengal Bouts seems to perfectly combine two integral aspects of Notre Dame’s identity: a passion for sports and a commitment to social impact.

We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department and you responded with the request: “Northwestern @ Notre Dame 2014 Football Breakdown”. That game was a heartbreaking loss for a Notre Dame team that had started 6-0 before stumbling down the stretch to a 7-5 record. A bowl game win over LSU salvaged some optimism for the program’s future, but that loss to Northwestern was a shocking result that contributed to one of the more appalling stretches of Irish football in the Brian Kelly era.
