Don’t let your education stop you from learning

Nelisha Silva | Wednesday, October 30, 2019

The week before fall break, I had the opportunity to participate in negotiations over a new treaty at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. I flew to New York with one of my classmates early Tuesday morning, and I returned to South Bend at midnight Thursday. I would be missing three full days

Ask questions

Natalie Weber | Wednesday, September 13, 2017

During our freshman year, my roommates and I lived across the hallway from our RA. We would stop into her room several times a week with questions — about our dorm, Notre Dame in general and occasionally even classes. She always patiently pointed us in the right direction, even if it was the third or

Going to college is an ideal in almost every human culture. As one of the major societal sifts that humans pass through on their way from adolescence to adulthood, college has many purposes. For some students, it provides the skills needed to take the next step in life. For others, it simply helps discern what

Learning to listen at Vision

Erin Thomassen | Thursday, October 6, 2016

Two years ago, I thought I knew what God was calling me to do at the Notre Dame Vision summer program: encourage high school students to explore their faith as a small group mentor, and sing, dance and spread joy as a music mentor. When I learned about the opportunity to give a witness talk,

Pressing ‘1’ for English is a great American value

Courtney Phelan | Thursday, September 17, 2015

A Facebook friend of mine recently shared an image. While I see images shared on social media every day, this one struck me particularly hard. The image depicted a woman holding a phone receiver away from her face and looking outraged, with red text superimposed on it that said, “IM IN AMERICA, WHY DO I HAVE

A love letter to my friends

Erin Thomassen | Monday, February 23, 2015

Some students call their professors their friends. I call my friends my professors. I don’t call them Professor Monika or Professor Steve to their faces. Most of them don’t even know they are my professors. They don’t realize our hangouts are classes and our lunch dates lab periods. This is because I hide my notes.

Joseph R. Biden has become the second Catholic President in United States history, but his position on abortion is “one that cannot be condoned” according to Rev. Robert Dowd.

“Other bishops think that, because he’s a conscientious Catholic whose faith is obviously important to him, we should strike a more positive tone, particularly at the outset of his presidency. After all, in many ways Biden’s positions are more in line with Catholic teaching than Trump’s, particularly when it comes to migrants, refugees, climate issues, poverty and inequality,” Dowd continued.
