Matthew Crow | Wednesday, March 8, 2023

It was always a long shot that Notre Dame men’s basketball would go on a miracle run to win five games in five days and claim the ACC championship. But for much of their first-round matchup with Virginia Tech on Tuesday night, it looked like the Irish might extend their season and the tenure of

‘No last call tonight’: Mike Brey takes home win as Irish upset Pitt in final home game

Liam Coolican | Thursday, March 2, 2023

It didn’t matter that Notre Dame had won just two conference games all season. It didn’t matter that they were facing the top team in the ACC. For one magical night, the Irish delivered an inspired performance to send off Mike Brey and the six graduate students who have meant so much to this program

Untimely cold stretch buries Irish in Wake Forest loss

Tyler Reidy | Monday, February 27, 2023

Notre Dame’s men’s basketball would like to snap its lengthy losing skid before Mike Brey moves on. However, the team is running out of time to get it done. Irish fall in primetime thriller against North Carolina

Matthew Crow | Friday, February 24, 2023

At this point, it feels like Notre Dame men’s basketball games are following a script. Two weeks ago, the Irish went stride for stride with Georgia Tech all game before faltering in the final seconds. Then the same story played out against Virginia Tech, Duke and Virginia. Liam Coolican | Tuesday, January 17, 2023

It was a Tuesday night must-win game for Notre Dame men’s basketball. But as has become a recurring theme this season, the Irish failed to deliver. Irish drop ACC opener against Syracuse in final seconds

Matthew Crow | Monday, December 5, 2022

All season long, Notre Dame men’s basketball has come through in late-game situations to pull out narrow victories. On Saturday, the Irish came up just short of doing so once again, falling 62-61 to Syracuse after Orange guard Judah Mintz’s game-winning layup in the final seconds. With the loss, the Irish will begin ACC play

This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bou This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bouts will begin its preliminary rounds. A men’s boxing tournament that benefits the Holy Cross Mission in Bangladesh, Bengal Bouts seems to perfectly combine two integral aspects of Notre Dame’s identity: a passion for sports and a commitment to social impact.

This week, From the Archives takes a long overdue look at the history of Bengal Bouts. While this tournament predates the Observer by nearly four decades, we uncovered a selection of stories that capture at least a part of the rich history of this Notre Dame tradition.

That game was a heartbreaking loss for a Notre Dame team that had started 6-0 before stumbling down the stretch to a 7-5 record. A bowl game win over LSU salvaged some optimism for the program’s future, but that loss to Northwestern was a shocking result that contributed to one of the more appalling stretches of Irish football in the Brian Kelly era.
