Moller: The curse that continues to haunt the Minnesota Vikings

Nate Moller | Thursday, January 26, 2023

The Vikings’ record in one-score games in the regular season: 11-0. The Vikings’ record in one-score games in the playoffs: 0-1. That’s pretty much all that is needed to sum up yet another season that ended in heartbreaking fashion for the Minnesota Vikings. They yet again fell victim to a curse that has haunted their

Moller: It’s time to give the Vikings the respect they deserve

Nate Moller | Friday, December 2, 2022

With last week’s Thanksgiving victory over the New England Patriots, the Minnesota Vikings currently hold an impressive 9-2 record. They hold a staggering five-game lead over the Detroit Lions in the NFC North. Despite the Vikings’ impressive record and dominance in the NFC North, the Vikings have received very little respect as a true contender

Moller: Are the Vikings poised to break their playoff woes?

Nate Moller | Tuesday, November 1, 2022

As we approach the midway point of the season, the Minnesota Vikings have proven to be arguably the most surprising team in the NFL this season. With a 6-1 record, the Vikings have consistently found ways to win in close games, and they have thrust themselves into the Super Bowl conversation. Coming into the season,

Moller: Defenses get cooked by Dalvin Cook

Nate Moller | Wednesday, November 11, 2020

I have always been a fan of Dalvin Cook. Almost every year I draft him on my fantasy team, and he plays for my Minnesota Vikings, so it’s a perfect combination for me. While Cook has been very susceptible to injuries since he entered the league in 2017, almost everyone would agree that Cook is

Moller: Kirk Cousins’ new contract is ridiculous

Nate Moller | Monday, March 23, 2020

On March 16, it was announced that the Minnesota Vikings had agreed to sign quarterback Kirk Cousins to a two-year extension that will pay him $66 million over those two years. Cousins, who has played two seasons for the Vikings, still has one year remaining on his previous contract worth $84 million over three years.

Kramer: Not so Minnesota nice, eh?

David Kramer | Wednesday, February 5, 2020

A few months ago, I tightened my grip on the TV remote and cursed the New York Yankees. After a series sweep over my beloved Minnesota Twins, their black pinstripes quickly disappeared amidst a sea of locker room champagne. Sinatra’s dreaded “New York, New York” flooded my ears. I stormed away from the post-game show,

Concannon: Where will Kirk Cousins land?

Jack Concannon | Thursday, March 8, 2018

In today’s NFL, the quarterback is, by far, the most important position on the field. Teams know this and make even non-elite quarterbacks like Matthew Stafford and Derek Carr hundred-millionaires to keep them on their teams. Never in the modern era of the NFL has a team let an excellent, healthy, starting-caliber quarterback entering his

Greason: Here’s how to stop the Patriots

Elizabeth Greason | Friday, January 19, 2018

The New England Patriots are at it again— probably back to win another Super Bowl. And I’m tired of it. As a Giants fan, I’ve always had anything but love in my heart for Bill Bellichick’s gang, so this year more than ever I’ll be rooting actively for pretty much anyone else. So here are

Greg Hadley | Saturday, May 2, 2015

With the 12th pick of the seventh round in the NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars selected former Irish tight end Ben Koyack on Saturday, marking the 78th consecutive year a former Notre Dame player has been drafted, including supplemental rounds. Coming off a senior season in which he caught 30 passes for 317 yards and

This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bou This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bouts will begin its preliminary rounds. A men’s boxing tournament that benefits the Holy Cross Mission in Bangladesh, Bengal Bouts seems to perfectly combine two integral aspects of Notre Dame’s identity: a passion for sports and a commitment to social impact.

This week, From the Archives takes a long overdue look at the history of Bengal Bouts. While this tournament predates the Observer by nearly four decades, we uncovered a selection of stories that capture at least a part of the rich history of this Notre Dame tradition.

We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department and you responded with the request: “Northwestern @ Notre Dame 2014 Football Breakdown”. That game was a heartbreaking loss for a Notre Dame team that had started 6-0 before stumbling down the stretch to a 7-5 record. A bowl game win over LSU salvaged some optimism for the program’s future, but that loss to Northwestern was a shocking result that contributed to one of the more appalling stretches of Irish football in the Brian Kelly era.
