Panda Bear’s ‘Buoys’ is a miss for Noah Lennox

Ethan Utley | Wednesday, February 13, 2019

Panda Bear is the pseudonym of Noah Lennox, an electronic experimental-pop superstar. Whether he is working on his solo project, or with his more well-known group Animal Collective, Lennox masterfully sews hallucinatory undertones into noise-heavy pop. Somewhere between The Beach Boys and Yves Tumor, Lennox shines a chipper light onto an often profound and overwhelming

Deerhunter covers new ground with ‘Why Hasn’t Everything Already Disappeared?’

Ethan Utley | Wednesday, January 30, 2019

Deerhunter has been called everything but an average indie-rock band. Lead singer and songwriter Bradford Cox is about as enigmatic as they come, and the music he creates is no exception. Pairing playful guitar and animated melodies with abstract lyrics and ghastly instrumentals, Cox has perhaps the most unique sound in today’s mainstream indie-rock scene.

‘Painting With’ Animal Collective

Matt McMahon | Monday, February 22, 2016

Over Animal Collective’s most recent 10 years as a band, the one-time Brooklyn darlings have systematically released a short EP or single between each of their major albums to bridge stylistic gaps and hint at the musical direction of their subsequent album. Collaboration with Vashti Bunyan on 2005’s “Prospect Hummer” bridged the acoustic freak folk of

Best Songs of 2015

Matthew Munhall and Matt McMahon | Thursday, December 10, 2015

1. “Gosh” / “Loud Places” [ft. Romy] — Jamie xx “Gosh” begins as a relatively tame electronic tune with fluttering percussion and vocal drops. Halfway through, the song transforms into an experiment, with the British producer seeing just how high he can take a euphoric synth line. “Loud Places,” on the other hand, is his

Panda Bear releases a new type of beast

Matt McMahon | Monday, January 19, 2015

“Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper” opens in familiar Noah Lennox — the chief presence behind the Panda Bear pseudonym — territory. A breezy synth and trickling aqueous effects accompany Lennox’s layered, climbing harmonies for a welcoming introduction in “Sequential Circuits.” Never one to rest on his prior conventions, though, Lennox quickly subverts his form with an

Top 50 Songs of 2014

Matt McMahon | Monday, December 1, 2014

1.) “Interference Fits” — Perfect Pussy The term “interference fit” refers to a fastening between two parts that is achieved by friction after the parts are pushed together, rather than by any other means of connection. “Interference Fits,” then, is by far the most beautifully poetic name for a song in which lead singer Meredith

‘Mr Noah’ a Sign of What’s to Come

Matthew Munhall | Thursday, October 30, 2014

Animal Collective’s Noah Lennox, who records under the name of Panda Bear, has been relatively silent for most of 2014. Lennox is one of the most prolific and critically-acclaimed artists of the past decade — but besides a mixtape in September, he’s been all but missing since his scene-stealing appearance on Daft Punk’s “Random Access Memories”

When the 2017 “Wonder Woman” film was released When the 2017 “Wonder Woman” film was released, many found the film exceptional, filled with female empowerment and inclusivity of women in Hollywood. It made me wonder if they saw the same movie I had watched, where a strong independent woman suddenly meets a man and willingly follows his every order, even though she’s a grade A baddie all on her own.

ICYMI: Saint Mary’s to require COVID-19 vaccinat ICYMI: Saint Mary’s to require COVID-19 vaccination for student enrollment in 2021-2022 academic year

College President Katie Conboy announced in a Monday email that all students are required to receive the COVID-19 vaccine for the upcoming academic year. The vaccine will be added to the list of mandatory student immunizations beginning in the 2021-2022 term.

“There is so much yet to learn about the COVID-19 virus, and while we are encouraged by the progress made thus far, we still see areas for concern; in particular the variant strains and what they could bring,” Conboy said. “For this reason, among others, we are making the bold choice to mandate student vaccines.”

According to Conboy, the College will offer exemption to the vaccine policy for proper medical and religious reasons.

In the wake of the University’s announcement of In the wake of the University’s announcement of Zahm House’s disbandment, The Observer began an investigation into the dorm’s so-called “troubling culture.”

The investigation revealed several incidents contributing to the administration’s decision, including Zahm residents’ disregard for and plans to alter COVID-19 tests as well as vandalism within and beyond the walls of the hall.

The Observer also obtained a series of email chains sent between roughly 200 Zahm residents from 2019-2020, in which students shared graphic and misogynistic jokes regarding sex and sexual assault.

Read more about COVID-19 cases and plans to alter results, annual vandalism costs, the disputed culture of the dorm, the Zahm residents’ take on the dorm’s closure and what the final decision means for Notre Dame residential life on The Observer’s website.
