Book Nook: The infamous and upcoming Percy Jackson adaptations

Caitlin Brannigan | Wednesday, November 16, 2022

I recently watched the 2005 film “Pride and Prejudice,” based on Jane Austen’s 1813 novel of the same name. It was excellent. Many movie adaptations of books struggle to convey their lengthy events in a completely different medium, but this is not the case with “Pride and Prejudice.” The writing succeeds in staying true to

‘Bridgerton’ season 2: The return of Lady Whistledown

Cecelia Swartz | Tuesday, March 29, 2022

Dearest Reader, The Bridgertons and Lady Whistledown have graced our screens once more for another season of gossip, melodrama and our favorite rom-com tropes. Following a sensational, steamy first season, lauded as a blend between Jane Austen and “The Bachelor,” “Bridgerton” season two had many expectations to meet. However, season two did not meet those

Pride and equity: What venture capital firms can learn from a 200 year old masterpiece

Renee Yaseen | Monday, March 1, 2021

According to Forbes, “women drive 70-80% of all consumer purchasing decisions.” This is a truth of which publisher Thomas Cadell was woefully unaware when he declined to publish Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice” (then called “First Impressions”) in 1797, sending it back with “frankly insulting speed.”  After 16 years, one of the most influential novels

Two whole centuries after its initial publication in 1813, “Pride and Prejudice” endures as one of the greatest love stories ever written. In recent years, the classic novel can claim itself as the basis on which many love/hate rom-coms are built, the inspiration for a

I was mostly met with a lot of blank stares, and my roommate even inquired if it was a movie that was currently playing

This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bou This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bouts will begin its preliminary rounds. A men’s boxing tournament that benefits the Holy Cross Mission in Bangladesh, Bengal Bouts seems to perfectly combine two integral aspects of Notre Dame’s identity: a passion for sports and a commitment to social impact.

This week, From the Archives takes a long overdue look at the history of Bengal Bouts. While this tournament predates the Observer by nearly four decades, we uncovered a selection of stories that capture at least a part of the rich history of this Notre Dame tradition.

We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department and you responded with the request: “Northwestern @ Notre Dame 2014 Football Breakdown”. That game was a heartbreaking loss for a Notre Dame team that had started 6-0 before stumbling down the stretch to a 7-5 record. A bowl game win over LSU salvaged some optimism for the program’s future, but that loss to Northwestern was a shocking result that contributed to one of the more appalling stretches of Irish football in the Brian Kelly era.
