Notre Dame survives scare from Princeton in opening round

Marek Mazurek | Thursday, March 16, 2017

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Irish head coach Mike Brey told reporters that he prepared two speeches on the bus ride over to KeyBank Arena: one if Notre dame won, and another if Notre Dame lost. In the final minute of Notre Dame’s matchup against Princeton (23-7, 16-0 Ivy League), it looked like Brey would be forced

Carson: Don’t worry about the details; Notre Dame is still alive

Alex Carson | Thursday, March 16, 2017

BUFFALO, N.Y. — That certainly wasn’t pretty. But hey, it’s March. We’re all familiar with the “survive and advance” cliche and, in many cases, its use is a little annoying. With this Notre Dame squad, though, it’s probably pretty apt. Of course, any coach would’ve preferred a nice, comfortable 15-point win to the 60-58 one

Marek Mazurek | Tuesday, March 14, 2017

The Irish are Buffalo bound. Notre Dame (25-9, 12-6 ACC) found out its tournament fate Sunday evening when the NCAA selection committee awarded the Irish the No. 5 seed in the West region. The Irish play their first game at 12:15 p.m. Thursday against Princeton, the region’s No. 12 seed, in Buffalo, New York. The Tigers

Carson: This could be Notre Dame’s year for a Final Four run

Alex Carson | Tuesday, March 14, 2017

Let’s get something out of the way: Notre Dame probably deserved a No. 4 seed. A more important thought: The difference between a No. 4 and 5 seed is so negligible that it isn’t worth getting worked up about either way. Especially when the path presented to the Irish is as favorable as the one the

Undefeated Irish kick off road trip at Louisville

If one could only use a single word to describe No. 4 Notre Dame’s offensive unit, “prolific” might be a good choice. Among teams that have taken the field more than once this season, the Irish lead the country with 16 goals per game and feature the country’s leading goal-scorer, junior attack Cortney Fortunato. And while Fortunato’s 19

Irish head coach Mike Johnson said, “I give our kids credit. I thought we competed hard … It’s not how we wanted it to end of course, but I can’t say enough about our players, about the people that they are, about the sacrifices they’ve made. I just have the greatest love and appreciation for them.”
