Don’t delay discernment!

Joey Jegier | Friday, January 27, 2023

Before coming to Notre Dame, I had never heard of discernment. Now, I would be lost without it. Discernment has not only brought joy and clarity, but it has also become the subject of my senior thesis. On snow and purpose

Reyna Lim | Friday, November 18, 2022

I have very little idea of what purpose means, but today I’m writing about it anyway. This is how I make sense of things. The power of routine

Mikey Colgan | Tuesday, March 29, 2022

I am a very predictable dude. When I’m at school, I spend my week doing homework in the same two locations and going to the gym right next to my dorm. When the weekend comes around, I end up in the same room with the same group of friends. Until I moved to Boston in

Four years in review

Erin McAuliffe | Friday, May 13, 2016

The Class of 2016 walked onto campus on Aug. 19, 2012 with “Call Me Maybe” still ringing in their ears — the result of both tear-filled parent drop-offs and Carly Rae Jepsen’s summer single. Justin Bieber gives us ‘Purpose’

Kelly McGarry | Monday, November 16, 2015

The entrance into adulthood is an interesting one for any teenage heartthrob, and Justin Bieber has had his share of bumps along the way. No longer a puppet of the industry, Bieber emerges as an artist with the new album “Purpose.” Working with the progressive production of Skrillex and Diplo was a power move for

A moviegoer sat on a bench and reflected on Swedish cinema

Charlie Ducey | Sunday, September 20, 2015

Let’s face it: Swedish art films are weird. Much of what comes out of Sweden is weird — Swedish meatballs, Swedish Fish (why are they so red?), those self assembly Ikea chairs, Zlatan Ibrahimović. But as far as weirdness goes, Swedish cinema takes the cake. I had the disconcerting pleasure of watching a Swedish art film this past

This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bou This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bouts will begin its preliminary rounds. A men’s boxing tournament that benefits the Holy Cross Mission in Bangladesh, Bengal Bouts seems to perfectly combine two integral aspects of Notre Dame’s identity: a passion for sports and a commitment to social impact.

This week, From the Archives takes a long overdue look at the history of Bengal Bouts. While this tournament predates the Observer by nearly four decades, we uncovered a selection of stories that capture at least a part of the rich history of this Notre Dame tradition.

We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department and you responded with the request: “Northwestern @ Notre Dame 2014 Football Breakdown”. That game was a heartbreaking loss for a Notre Dame team that had started 6-0 before stumbling down the stretch to a 7-5 record. A bowl game win over LSU salvaged some optimism for the program’s future, but that loss to Northwestern was a shocking result that contributed to one of the more appalling stretches of Irish football in the Brian Kelly era.
