Love is always worth it

Joey Jegier | Friday, April 21, 2023

If humans were programmed like artificial intelligence, our code would be based on love. We are built for love. As I was deciding what to write for this column, I knew it had to be something I could write quickly and easily, because it’s due soon and I’m busy. I decided to write about love,

NSR’s captivating ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ will eat your heart in the marketplace

Anna Falk | Wednesday, April 19, 2023

The Not-So-Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of “Much Ado About Nothing” begs the question: “How do you build trust in a relationship, and what happens when it is broken?” Director Nandini Sadagopan fell in love with this play at first read, admiring the presence of strong female characters Beatrice and Hero that she could look up

Notre Dame professor launches book on women’s agency and interdependence in India

Kate Kirwan | Thursday, February 16, 2023

“Many thanks to all of you for joining us to talk about my book about gender-based violence on Valentine’s Day. I can’t think of anything more romantic than spending time together interrogating the ideological underpinnings of kinship,” Julia Kowalski, assistant professor of global affairs at Notre Dame, ironically remarked.  Notre Dame celebrated the launch of

Try a little tenderness

Kylie Henry | Wednesday, September 21, 2022

I first allowed myself to consider the fact that I was asexual in the winter of 2020, with the assistance of a friend. They asked about my sexuality — I told them I identified as queer, but I hadn’t fully defined what queer was for me. We then proceeded to discard one sexuality after another

A theory of love

Trevor Lwere | Monday, February 7, 2022

What is Love? Love is a commitment. What is commitment? Commitment is dedication to someone or something. What is love a commitment to? Love is a commitment to the life of its object. The object could be oneself or another self. So, you ask, what then is life? Life is a constant attempt at approximating

‘After We Fell’ and the real problem with modern cinema

Rose Androwich | Thursday, January 20, 2022

“After We Fell” — based on a Harry Styles Wattpad fanfiction — was recently released on Netflix as the third movie of its series. Some fans of the movie will be thrilled to see Hardin (Hero Fiennes Tiffin) and Tessa (Josephine Langford) back on the screen; I, however, will not. The truth is, despite watching all

Jesus on adultery

Trevor Lwere | Monday, November 15, 2021

In Matthew 5:27-30, Jesus pronounces Himself on the question of adultery. This passage is found in the Sermon on the Mount — within the Gospel of Matthew — which is Jesus’ ethical teaching on a righteous life. Most scholars agree that the overarching theme of this passage is the identification of impediments to ultimate salvation

For the simps

Sydni Brooks | Tuesday, October 13, 2020

So you got played. Whether it was by a friend, a family member or a lover, things hit the fan, and the fan obliterated whatever the thing was. You’ve been trying to put the pieces back together to formulate some resemblance of what things were to salvage the relationship you had, but half of the

10 atmospheres

Show Some Skin | Thursday, September 10, 2020

I don’t remember the first time I learned that at all times the atmosphere is weighing down on you, pressure from above, a firm presence keeping you in place.  One atmosphere: the pressure exerted by all that is above you, up until the vacuum of space. About 15 pounds per square inch.  For something so

Long distance love and (possibly) pain

Veronica Navarro | Monday, April 27, 2020

The transition out of high school and into college is difficult for almost everyone. We’re forced to release attachments to teachers and friends, and many of us will say goodbye to our first-ever love interest. Serious or not, losing this relationship can cause a lot of hurt for a teenager. At least for me, although

This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bou This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bouts will begin its preliminary rounds. A men’s boxing tournament that benefits the Holy Cross Mission in Bangladesh, Bengal Bouts seems to perfectly combine two integral aspects of Notre Dame’s identity: a passion for sports and a commitment to social impact.

This week, From the Archives takes a long overdue look at the history of Bengal Bouts. While this tournament predates the Observer by nearly four decades, we uncovered a selection of stories that capture at least a part of the rich history of this Notre Dame tradition.

We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department and you responded with the request: “Northwestern @ Notre Dame 2014 Football Breakdown”. That game was a heartbreaking loss for a Notre Dame team that had started 6-0 before stumbling down the stretch to a 7-5 record. A bowl game win over LSU salvaged some optimism for the program’s future, but that loss to Northwestern was a shocking result that contributed to one of the more appalling stretches of Irish football in the Brian Kelly era.
