Animation Nation: ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’

Gabriel Zarazua | Wednesday, November 9, 2022

This past week was one of my roughest weeks yet. Yes, I got to see a part of history and storm the field while Notre Dame beat Clemson, but waiting for me was three paintings and one drawing with fast-approaching deadlines. The Sunday Scaries were hitting hard and more late nights were coming. Naturally, I

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’: A spoiler-filled review

John Clark | Tuesday, February 1, 2022

“Spider-Man: No Way Home” is the latest entry in the cinematic oeuvre of Hollywood powerhouse Marvel Studios. It is awesome! In “No Way Home,” Peter Parker squares up with the most intimidating villain he’s faced yet: college admissions. The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s embrace of the multiverse was always inevitable, but it is still the coolest

A return to the movies

Genevieve Coleman | Monday, January 24, 2022

Late last month, I convinced some of my friends to come with me to watch “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” Incidentally, the last movie I saw in theaters before the pandemic hit was the second installment of Tom Holland’s franchise “Far From Home.” It would be the understatement of 2021 to say I was excited to

Marvel Studios has been hitting it out of the park lately with successful movie after successful movie. In 2018, Ruben Fleischer directed “Venom,” a film based in the “Spider-Man” universe. The film, despite making more $800 million in the box office, garnered negative reviews. Three years later, famous actor Andy Serkis took the director’s chair

‘The Mitchells vs. the Machines’: Family bonding, but with robots

Christine Hilario | Friday, May 7, 2021

It’s a tale as old as time: a quirky teenage girl’s dreams are stifled by a parent who just doesn’t get her. But this age-old story is thrown for a loop when the robot apocalypse begins. When an Apple-esque tech company accidentally instigates the machine apocalypse, the Mitchells are the only ones left to save

Why Sony should keep Spider-Man

Patrick McKelvey | Wednesday, September 4, 2019

If you’re anything like me and spend way too much time thinking about comic book movies, you’ve probably heard the latest news. Spider-Man, who finally joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in 2016’s “Captain America: Civil War” and who was poised to lead the next slate of films in the franchise, will no longer be

HBO’s dark teen drama: ‘Euphoria’

Ryan Israel | Wednesday, August 28, 2019

Most teen dramas follow a fairly similar and predictable pattern. A group of teenagers, almost always in high school — some of them friends, some of them enemies — go through a series of twists and turns, ups and downs, relationships and break-ups, lies and deceit. At the end of the season, there’s a homecoming

A men’s boxing tournament that benefits the Holy Cross Mission in Bangladesh, Bengal Bouts seems to perfectly combine two integral aspects of Notre Dame’s identity: a passion for sports and a commitment to social impact.

This week, From the Archives takes a long overdue look at the history of Bengal Bouts. While this tournament predates the Observer by nearly four decades, we uncovered a selection of stories that capture at least a part of the rich history of this Notre Dame tradition.

We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department and you responded with the request: “Northwestern @ Notre Dame 2014 Football Breakdown”. That game was a heartbreaking loss for a Notre Dame team that had started 6-0 before stumbling down the stretch to a 7-5 record. A bowl game win over LSU salvaged some optimism for the program’s future, but that loss to Northwestern was a shocking result that contributed to one of the more appalling stretches of Irish football in the Brian Kelly era.
