Stop romanticizing burnout

Krista Lourdes Akiki | Thursday, February 18, 2021

Before I got to college, I did not think burnout was a big deal. Last semester, that belief drove my energy, ambition, concentration levels and mental health to the ground. It felt like running into a brick wall; I was too tired to climb it and couldn’t find a way around it. One thing I’ve

Here’s to a better class registration experience

Martha Zaytoun | Wednesday, April 17, 2019

My eyes fluttered open and my hand gravitated toward my phone. Picking it up, I casually glanced at the time. 8:30 a.m. I blinked a few times, hoping I had groggily misread it, thinking there was no way I was stupid enough to sleep through class registration. But staring at the clock illuminating my phone

The misfortune with verbs

Kelly Burke | Tuesday, October 23, 2018

You fell in love with yearning at the age of 19. You met on a humid night. You remember being pleased with the humidity, not minding how it fluffed the hair near your temples into baby curls. Not minding how the water proof fabric of your rain jacket folded into your skin, making you feel

The case for loose tobacco

Mike Donovan | Friday, April 13, 2018

The world, I’m sorry to say, is out to get you. You can run, hide, lose yourself in the dulcet tones of “Levels” by Avicii (remember?), but the world will sneak behind you and bro-punch you in the back (like Chad from your ACCT 20200). Scientists (ugh!) and health professionals (double ugh!) offer all kinds

When the 2017 “Wonder Woman” film was released When the 2017 “Wonder Woman” film was released, many found the film exceptional, filled with female empowerment and inclusivity of women in Hollywood. It made me wonder if they saw the same movie I had watched, where a strong independent woman suddenly meets a man and willingly follows his every order, even though she’s a grade A baddie all on her own.

ICYMI: Saint Mary’s to require COVID-19 vaccinat ICYMI: Saint Mary’s to require COVID-19 vaccination for student enrollment in 2021-2022 academic year

College President Katie Conboy announced in a Monday email that all students are required to receive the COVID-19 vaccine for the upcoming academic year. The vaccine will be added to the list of mandatory student immunizations beginning in the 2021-2022 term.

“There is so much yet to learn about the COVID-19 virus, and while we are encouraged by the progress made thus far, we still see areas for concern; in particular the variant strains and what they could bring,” Conboy said. “For this reason, among others, we are making the bold choice to mandate student vaccines.”

According to Conboy, the College will offer exemption to the vaccine policy for proper medical and religious reasons.

The Observer also obtained a series of email chains sent between roughly 200 Zahm residents from 2019-2020, in which students shared graphic and misogynistic jokes regarding sex and sexual assault.

Read more about COVID-19 cases and plans to alter results, annual vandalism costs, the disputed culture of the dorm, the Zahm residents’ take on the dorm’s closure and what the final decision means for Notre Dame residential life on The Observer’s website.
