Notre Dame softball will return to ACC play this weekend when they square off against Pittsburgh in South Bend. The Irish are looking to find momentum following a dominant 15-0 showing against IUPUI Tuesday. The offensive explosion was much needed for a Notre Dame squad that struggled over the weekend against Syracuse. After a series-opening

Tuesday afternoon, Notre Dame softball will look to get back to winning ways with a home matchup against IUPUI. Irish begin home ACC play against Syracuse

Andrew McGuinness | Friday, March 24, 2023

Over Notre Dame softball’s last four regular seasons, there have been two constants. First, the Irish have largely handled business against their ACC foes. Even though the conference is usually regarded as one of the sport’s best, the Irish have an impressive 59-28 mark in conference play since 2019. The only thing more consistent than

‘This is what you come to Notre Dame for’: Liufau ready to take on Clemson

Mannion McGinley | Friday, November 4, 2022

In summer of 2021, no one could get enough of then junior linebacker Marist Liufau. He had flashes of of success in camp, became the talk of the town and was seemingly unblockable. Then, his season ended before it could start. Liufau suffered a broken ankle midway through camp, ultimately keeping him from a season’s

Observer on the Ground: Get me out of Syracuse, New York

Aidan Thomas | Monday, October 31, 2022

Let me start off this edition of Observer on the Ground with a quick disclaimer. I love traveling to cover Notre Dame football. It’s a privilege, and the experience is always worth it. That being said, get me the [insert expletive of choice] out of Syracuse, New York, and never send me back. Logistically, the

Keys to victory versus Syracuse

Liam Coolican | Friday, October 28, 2022

Notre Dame got back on track last weekend with a victory over UNLV. But the Irish face a much stiffer test this weekend as they travel to Syracuse to face the Orange at the JMA Wireless Dome. Syracuse started the season 6-0, surging into the top-15 and shocking many observers after they were picked to

Observer Staff predicts Notre Dame vs. Syracuse

Observer Sports Staff | Friday, October 28, 2022

Aidan Thomas – Sports Editor I have gone back and forth on this pick a lot. Notre Dame is 4-3 outright as an underdog in ACC games under their current arrangement with the conference. They’re 6-1 against the spread. The Irish are 2-1 outright and 3-0 against the spread away from Notre Dame Stadium this

Notre Dame vs. Syracuse: The history of the matchup

Andrew McGuinness | Thursday, October 27, 2022

Whatever happens in Saturday’s game between Notre Dame and No. 16 Syracuse at JMA Wireless Dome, expect it to be crazy. The Irish have already been through more twists than turns through seven games this year than they have in some seven-year stretches in its history. The Orange are in fairly uncharted territory, at least

Volleyball pick up first ACC wins at Syracuse, BC

Jose Sanchez Cordova | Monday, October 10, 2022

Notre Dame went back on the road snagging their first two ACC wins, sweeping Syracuse 3-0 on Friday and beating Boston College 3-1 on Sunday. It was a much-needed bounce-back weekend for Notre Dame and first-year head coach Salima Rockwell after a disappointing homestand where they lost against Georgia Tech and Clemson. Syracuse Notre Dame

This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bou This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bouts will begin its preliminary rounds. A men’s boxing tournament that benefits the Holy Cross Mission in Bangladesh, Bengal Bouts seems to perfectly combine two integral aspects of Notre Dame’s identity: a passion for sports and a commitment to social impact.

This week, From the Archives takes a long overdue look at the history of Bengal Bouts. While this tournament predates the Observer by nearly four decades, we uncovered a selection of stories that capture at least a part of the rich history of this Notre Dame tradition.

We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department and you responded with the request: “Northwestern @ Notre Dame 2014 Football Breakdown”. That game was a heartbreaking loss for a Notre Dame team that had started 6-0 before stumbling down the stretch to a 7-5 record. A bowl game win over LSU salvaged some optimism for the program’s future, but that loss to Northwestern was a shocking result that contributed to one of the more appalling stretches of Irish football in the Brian Kelly era.
