Aidan Thomas – Sports Editor I have gone back and forth on this pick a lot. Notre Dame is 4-3 outright as an underdog in ACC games under their current arrangement with the conference. They’re 6-1 against the spread. The Irish are 2-1 outright and 3-0 against the spread away from Notre Dame Stadium this

Notre Dame vs. Syracuse: The history of the matchup

Andrew McGuinness | Thursday, October 27, 2022

Whatever happens in Saturday’s game between Notre Dame and No. 16 Syracuse at JMA Wireless Dome, expect it to be crazy. The Irish have already been through more twists than turns through seven games this year than they have in some seven-year stretches in its history. The Orange are in fairly uncharted territory, at least

J.J. Post | Thursday, April 7, 2022

This weekend Notre Dame softball (28-7, 7-3 ACC) will look to extend its winning streak with a three-game road swing against Syracuse (19-12, 3-8 ACC). The Irish should enter the series against the Orange with plenty of momentum. Notre Dame enters the series fresh off a major upset over nationally-ranked Northwestern at Melissa Cook Stadium

Olivia Schatz | Tuesday, March 1, 2022

After a strenuous fight, then-No. 17 Notre Dame ultimately fell 17-16 in overtime to No. 3 Syracuse at home Saturday night. After the first three quarters it appeared to be a blowout from the Orange, but that quickly changed into a close game.  Although the Orange outscored the Irish 6-2 in the first quarter, it

Ellen Geyer | Friday, February 19, 2021

The Notre Dame men’s basketball team encountered yet another speed bump on the road to the post-season this week. Slated to host Clemson (13-5, 7-5 ACC) in a conference matchup Wednesday, COVID issues left the Tiger program unable to make the trip, causing the Irish (9-10, 6-7) to cancel a home game for the fourth

This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bou This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bouts will begin its preliminary rounds. This week, From the Archives takes a long overdue look at the history of Bengal Bouts. While this tournament predates the Observer by nearly four decades, we uncovered a selection of stories that capture at least a part of the rich history of this Notre Dame tradition.

We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department and you responded with the request: “Northwestern @ Notre Dame 2014 Football Breakdown”. That game was a heartbreaking loss for a Notre Dame team that had started 6-0 before stumbling down the stretch to a 7-5 record. A bowl game win over LSU salvaged some optimism for the program’s future, but that loss to Northwestern was a shocking result that contributed to one of the more appalling stretches of Irish football in the Brian Kelly era.
