Is eye contact overrated?

Jack Griffiths | Wednesday, March 8, 2023

All right, I’m looking into his eyes. Good. Now he knows I’m paying attention … Wait, it’s been 10 seconds. What if he thinks I’m staring at him? Maybe I should just look at something else for a split second so I don’t stare. Good! There’s a tree over there. Let’s look at the tree.

Hand Habits’ ‘placeholder’: an exploration of anxiety

Hanna Kennedy | Friday, March 29, 2019

Anxiety-ridden, confused, refusing to use capital letters. These adjectives could describe the average college student, or they could describe the second album released by Meg Duffy’s Hand Habits: “placeholder.” Available since early March, the project continues Duffy’s exploration of vulnerability that began with their first release, “Wildly Idle (Humble Before the Void).” Hand Habits’ characteristic

Diversity Council | Thursday, November 9, 2017

Vulnerability. I believe that if there is one thing a Notre Dame student is more afraid of than a C in a class, it is vulnerability. As students, we have a wide variety of conversations. This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bou This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bouts will begin its preliminary rounds. A men’s boxing tournament that benefits the Holy Cross Mission in Bangladesh, Bengal Bouts seems to perfectly combine two integral aspects of Notre Dame’s identity: a passion for sports and a commitment to social impact.

This week, From the Archives takes a long overdue look at the history of Bengal Bouts. While this tournament predates the Observer by nearly four decades, we uncovered a selection of stories that capture at least a part of the rich history of this Notre Dame tradition.

We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department and you responded with the request: “Northwestern @ Notre Dame 2014 Football Breakdown”. That game was a heartbreaking loss for a Notre Dame team that had started 6-0 before stumbling down the stretch to a 7-5 record. A bowl game win over LSU salvaged some optimism for the program’s future, but that loss to Northwestern was a shocking result that contributed to one of the more appalling stretches of Irish football in the Brian Kelly era.
